Suite 204 Studio and Gallery in partnership with Leanne Cooke of Remax Orillia is excited to showcase the work of local artist Kelli Dove. Dove is the December Featured Artist on the studio’s gallery wall. Kelli Dove has been a figurative and portrait painter for over 20 years. Her portraits may be found in residences across Canada. Her major influences are Rene Magritte and Canadian Artist Andrew Salgado. She has a three year Fine Arts Diploma from Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario. She has participated in numerous group shows, most recently in Orillia where she currently resides. Group shows include The Women’s Art Show at the Orillia Museum of Art and History, Streets Alive Outdoor Sculpture Project 2014 and Zephyr Art Gallery.
Her most recent work explores the look and nature of digital art. Using digital editing software to alter an image and reduce it to a less complex form with a simplified colour palette, she then transforms the image further using the traditional mediums of acrylic and oil paint. The subject matter of her personal work is mainly her children, her most cherished inspiration. Dove captures their quirks and personalities in an attempt to immortalize the fleetingness that is childhood - this resonates with and connects her work with the viewer. The digital media phase of her work represents this ephemeral stage of life. The conversion of something temporary like digital art to a medium with the longevity of oil paint reflects the attempt to make these moments eternal.
Suite 204 is proud to have Leanne Cooke participate in their Sponsor an Artist Program, enabling Kelli Dove to show her work in a downtown Orillia Art venue. Leanne’s support of the arts in Orillia contributes to the growth and sustainability of the Orillia arts scene.
