Best known for his “vertical strip” collage style, he also creates colourful works based on quilt designs and modern art. Orillia has a vibrant arts community, where paul has shown in galleries, studios and shops, and on the street. His six-foot tall wood-and-collage sculpture, “colour stories”, was exhibited on the main street for the 2016 season of Streets Alive.
My aim is to create an emotional connection with the viewer. My eye finds a combination of images which somehow strike an emotional chord; hands slice and combine the remnants so that the images, although still wholly present, are obscured by one another; the viewer is compelled to reach past her subverted perception, to react to the piece on an emotional level.
